History

Unitus Capital was founded in July 2008 by the international nonprofit Unitus, Inc. and several committed investors.

Unitus Capital’s roots originate from Unitus’ Capital Markets Team’s extensive experience in the microfinance industry and capital markets arena, as well as our unique vision for a new type of financial services firm. The team has developed a strong track record in delivering capital markets expertise to the microfinance industry, and has introduced a variety of innovative business models and transaction types.

Since 2004, the team has worked extensively with major and boutique financial institutions, specialized microfinance investment vehicles, and Unitus MFI partners to arrange debt in excess of US$25 million for 14 Unitus MFI partners across six countries and provided introductions to financial institutions and specialized funds that have delivered more than US$100 million in debt financing for Unitus MFI partners.

As a privately owned, for-profit entity leveraging the myriad forces converging in the microfinance industry, Unitus Capital combines industry expertise, a seasoned team, and a commercial business model to channel much needed growth capital to businesses serving the bottom of the economic pyramid.
